Advanced Digital Photography

Thursdays, June 5, 12, 19, 26
6:30 pm-8:30 pm

Fee:  $100 (Members $90)

The Advanced Class is where we “pull it all together”.  Drawing on the lessons of ISO, aperture and shutter speed—the effective use —we now explore the artistic side of photography as well. Beginning with “pre-visualization” you will learn about post processing as it aligns with the traditional darkroom, landscape and waterphotography, portraits with a single light source, building your portfolio and more.  Considerations: You should have a good understanding of the principles of photography and be able to operate your DSLR on manual mode or have taken the Basic and Intermediate Photography Courses.  During this session we will explore some advanced techniques and have the flexibility for personalized sessions to focus on your individual path. This course is designed to help you explore and develop your personal vision.

This class will also have home exercises requiring more time and more thought than the Beginner and Intermediate course as we explore and discover our own personal styles of photography.

Fee:  $90 (Members $80)

We will begin in a great location for outdoor portraits in beautiful Leu Gardens to explore the differences in focal lengths of your lenses, the various lighting opportunities and how to manipulate the light that is available.  We will learn how to: find the right light for great exposures, find pleasing and complimentary backgrounds and avoid harsh shadows. This will be a shooting class with a live “model”. This class will not deal with fill flash, rather passive light using reflectors and diffusers.  A TFCD model release will be provided enabling you to post these images online.  We will need a minimum of 4.

In this course you will learn about aperture compensation and specific techniques with your light-meter, manipulating the white balance for more dynamic results as well as flash and other methods for manipulating light. Discussions about composition will challenge to seek out your own creative compositions, while learning the difference between designing a great image and simply taking a picture. Considerations: You need to have an understanding of the basic principles of photography and be able to operate your DSLR on manual mode or have taken the Foundation in Photography Course. Capturing Flowers Workshop

Saturday, August 16
9:00 am-Noon

Fee:  $40 (Members $30)

It would seem simple to photograph something naturally beautiful as flowers: however, capturing their true essence is far from simple. This class allows one on one attention as you learn how to capture delicate flowers in photographs. You will learn the importance of lens selection, including macro, wide-angle, and telephoto lenses, but also how to work with the unique properties of the lenses you have in your camera bag. We will experiment with lighting, and background selection. This workshop is geared towards DSLR photographers.  Bring a lens capable of working at 200mm (zoom lenses from 70-300mm and 80-200mm are most effective, but you are in no means limited to these). If you have a macro lens, bring it along too! This workshop is subject to weather conditions and must have a minimum of 5.
