Beginner Bonsai Workshop

Create your own Dwarf Green Jade bonsai and learn beginner pruning, styling, and care instructions in a hands-on workshop. Justin will guide the class through the following skills:
- Repotting nursery stock into a shallow ceramic pot
- Design characteristics to look for in a tree
- Pruning and styling your tree with the use of directional pruning and wiring
- How to care for your tree
Join Elemental Nursery for a hands-on beginner bonsai workshop at Harry P. Leu Gardens. In this class, participants will create their own Dwarf Green Jade bonsai while learning the basics of repotting, bonsai care, and design.
This workshop is designed for beginners and no prior bonsai experience is required. Participants will be guided through repotting, basic pruning, and styling techniques, as well as how to care for their bonsai at home after the class.
All materials needed for the project will be provided.
Registration includes admission to the beautiful gardens before or after class.
Elemental Nursery has served Florida as a bonsai-focused nursery specializing in quality pre-bonsai, nursery material, and finished bonsai. Through years of working with bonsai, we have educated the public on the beauty, patience, and tranquil effects of shaping, styling, and caring for these living works of art.
Our goal is to make bonsai approachable for beginners while still honoring the tradition, technique, and long-term care that bonsai requires. In addition to our bonsai selection, we also offer exotic plants, carnivorous plants, and handmade pottery produced through our family-owned manufacturing facility in Taiwan.
After class, guests are welcome to browse a selection of handcrafted bonsai trees and potted house plants created by Elemental Nursery. Payment options include cash, and credit card
Participants must withdraw from classes at least 5 days prior to the start of class in order to receive a full refund or credit. If we must cancel a class, we will make every effort to inform you prior to the class time, and you will receive a full refund or credit.Only those registered for the class will be permitted in the classroom. Childcare services are not provided.
