Grounding in Clay: A Mindful Planter Workshop
Saturday, July 25, 2026
12:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Instructor: Spencer Elizabeth | The Grounding Studio
Experience an educational, hands-on workshop that invites participants to slow down, reconnect, and learn the fundamentals of ceramics in the peaceful setting of Leu Gardens.
Learn ceramic techniques while decorating your own handmade planter in this grounding,nature-inspired workshop.
Spencer will guide the class through the practice of the following skills:
• Basic clay preparation
• Slip application and scoring techniques for attaching clay
• Building and attaching decorative clay elements
• Creating texture and surface design
• Underglaze painting techniques for color and detail
Each participant will begin with a wheel-thrown planter base prepared in advance. From there, you will learn foundational ceramic techniques used to build, attach, and decorate clay forms. You will create a personalized planter while gaining a deeper understanding of how ceramic pieces are constructed and finished.
The process is steady and intentional, allowing you to explore texture, color, and personal expression at a comfortable pace. Clay has a unique way of inviting presence and grounding—making this workshop a refreshing pause from daily demands.
Once your planter is complete, it will be dried, bisque-fired, glazed, and glaze-fired off-site at The Grounding Studio. Finished pieces will be returned to Leu Gardens for pickup within 3–4 weeks. Shipping is also available for an additional $12 fee. Participants will be notified via email as soon as their pieces are ready.
After class, guests are welcome to browse a small selection of handcrafted ceramics and holistic goods created by The Grounding Studio. Payment options include cash, Mastercard, Visa, and Amex.
Your ticket includes:
