GROWING ROSES CAN BE A FUN AND EXHILARATING ADVENTURE THAT ADDS JOY AND BEAUTY TO YOUR LIFE AND YARD FOR YEARS TO COME.
In this seminar we will work on the tools and information needed to succeed as a Rosarian.
Our topics will be:
· Rose selection: grafted vs non grafted, modern vs historic
· Types of grafting stock: Fortuniana and Dr Huey
· Sight selection
· Soil amendments
· Proper planting techniques (demonstration)
· Resources for rose care Information and identification
Each participant will receive a one gallon rose plant cultivated by ROSE PETALS NURSERY OF NEWBERRY FLORIDA. If time and weather allow any interested class participant is welcome to join the instructor for an informal walking tour of the Leu Gardens Rose Garden.
Registration includes admission to the beautiful gardens before or after class.
David Eppley has been growing roses for over 30 years in Central Florida. He is the current Vice President of The ORLANDO AREA HISTORIC ROSE SOCIETY and will serve as President in 2026 and 2027. David is also a long-time member of the American Rose Society and is certified as a CONSULTING ROSARIAN. In his role as a Consulting Rosarian he has worked with public gardens to discuss rose garden planning and care and has given a very popular lecture demo entitled Roses 101, designed for rose growing societies. As an author he has written articles on seasonal rose care, Old Garden vs Modern Grafted roses and fund raising for horticultural groups; he is currently working on a work of fiction entitled “The Roses of Sorrow Gardens”
Participants must withdraw from classes at least 5 days prior to the start of class in order to receive a full refund or credit. If we must cancel a class, we will make every effort to inform you prior to the class time, and you will receive a full refund or credit.
Only those registered for the class will be permitted in the classroom. Childcare services are not provided.
