Saturday, April 18, 2026

10:00 PM - 12:00 PM

Instructor: Sonja Marshall

Have you ever wanted to try abstract painting… but didn’t know where to start?

Abstract art can feel mysterious — like there’s a secret language everyone else understands. In this class, we take the pressure off and give you an easy step-by-step process to make incredible art.

Discover the beauty of abstraction through the lens of nature. We’ll gather creative energy from the organic forms around us and translate botanical shapes into bold, expressive works of art.

You’ll experiment with layering, line, texture, and color while learning how to simplify natural forms into expressive shapes. This class is designed to help you loosen perfectionism, embrace movement, and develop confidence in your creative voice.

Perfect for beginners and experienced painters alike.

All materials and supplies are included in your session fee.

Each student will complete one painting on canvas.

Acrylic paint can be messy, wear appropriate clothing

Registration includes admission to the beautiful gardens before or after class.

About the Instructor:

Sonja Marshall is a lifelong artist and creative facilitator who has worked professionally in the arts since 1993, beginning her career as a graphic designer for Universal Studios. Her next adventure was metalsmithing, participating in juried art shows for eight years before transitioning into teaching in 2004. Following the opening of her own studio and boutique in 2019, she began designing welcoming, hands-on workshops that help people of all skill levels experience the joy of creativity.

What began as small community art gatherings has grown into large corporate and team-building programs for organizations including the Gary Sinise Foundation, WOW Event Design, local law firms and Birchstreet Systems just to name a few. Her workshops blend thoughtful instruction with a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere where participants leave not only with a finished project, but with a sense of connection and accomplishment.

Participants must withdraw from classes at least 5 days prior to the start of class in order to receive a full refund or credit. If we must cancel a class, we will make every effort to inform you prior to the class time, and you will receive a full refund or credit. Only those registered for the class will be permitted in the classroom. Childcare services are not provided.
