Embroidered Floral Monogram

Learn the timeless art of hand embroidery while creating a personalized monogram you'll treasure. This class is designed for complete beginners — no prior sewing or needlework experience needed.
We'll start from scratch: threading a needle, securing your fabric in a hoop, and practicing essential stitches including the backstitch, running stitch, and the french knot. Then the fun part: you'll trace your very own initial and stitch it into a one-of-a-kind monogram, complete with a few additional floral details.
Join us for slow, mindful stitching, good company, and a handmade treasure to take home at the end. Choose your project:Tea Towel (provided) or Tote Bag (provided) or bring an item to embroider
By the end of the class, you'll walk away with:
* A finished embroidered monogram
* Confidence in core hand-embroidery stitches
* The skills to start your own future embroidery projects
What to bring:
Glasses to see better. All other materials — embroidery hoop, fabric, needles, floss, and a monogram template — will be provided. Feel free to bring your own hoop or material.
Skill level: Beginner (no experience required)
All supplies, materials and tools are provided.
Registration includes admission to the beautiful gardens before or after class.
About the Instructor:
Sonja Marshall is a lifelong artist and creative facilitator who has worked professionally in the arts since 1993, beginning her career as a graphic designer for Universal Studios. Her next adventure was metalsmithing, participating in juried art shows for eight years before transitioning into teaching in 2004. Following the opening of her own studio and boutique in 2019, she began designing welcoming, hands-on workshops for people of all skill levels.
What began as small community art gatherings has grown into large corporate and team-building programs for organizations including the Gary Sinise Foundation, WOW Event Design, local law firms and Birchstreet Systems just to name a few. Her workshops blend thoughtful instruction with a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere where participants leave not only with a finished project, but with a sense of connection and accomplishment.
