Introduction to Ikebana Japanese Flower Arrangement

Let’s have some fun with Ikebana and create an Ikebana arrangement. In this workshop,“Repeating Similar Forms or Shapes with Leaves” you will design an arrangement using mostly leaves and a single flower. All levels of Ikebana experience are welcome to attend.
If you like using your hands to create, this Ikebana freestyle workshop is for you. Create your own composition by cutting, bending, and intertwining leaves to express simplicity, movement and harmony, which are all important qualities of Ikebana. Whether you are new to Ikebana or have previous experience, this freestyle workshop offers an opportunity to explore leaves in a creative and expressive way.
Each student will receive a 6” white petite nageire-style ceramic vase, along with green or red leaves and a flower. You will learn how to make traditional crossbars to insert into the nageire vase to secure your materials. A kenzan is not needed for this class and will not be provided.
All plant materials and vase will be provided.
Please bring branch cutters and scissors to use in this workshop.
Children 12 and older are welcome to attend when accompanied by a parent - both must purchase tickets.
About the Instructor: Irene Gomulka has given numerous demonstrations and taught Ikebana classes at Leu Gardens, Epcot, and the Mennello Museum, and teaches ongoing Ikebana workshops. She is an annual Art in Bloom exhibitor at the Orlando Museum of Art.
Irene is an instructor in the Sogetsu School of Ikebana from Tokyo, Japan and holds the rank of Komon. She is also an instructor of the Banmi Shofu Ryu Ikebana School. Irene is the current President of the Ikebana International Chapter in Orlando and Chairperson of the Sogetsu Orlando Study Group. She is a recent recipient of the Ikebana Iwaya Fund’s Memorial Teaching Scholarship.
Participants must withdraw from classes at least 5 days prior to the start of class in order to receive a full refund or credit. If we must cancel a class, we will make every effort to inform you prior to the class time, and you will receive a full refund or credit.
Only those registered for the class will be permitted to participate. Childcare services are not provided.
